Roger Kato returned to the winner’s circle on Sunday for the 3rd time in 2 years in the race sponsored by Roger Kato Racing and Meziere Enterprises. Roger beat Dave after Dave’s aforementioned red light.
 
Kato 2 Roger Kato moved solidly into the Southern California Pro Gas Assoc., top ten with his Race #6 win at Auto Club Dragway, his third series win in the past two years. Kato, qualified fourth with a 9.902 run, stopped the redhot return of Dave Coapstick in the final round of the event that was sponsored by Meziere Enterprises and Roger Kato Racing. Kato had defeated Tony Broussard, Paul Wiechmann, Rick Gunther and Randy Balough before getting a bye into the final, where Coapstick drew his .001 red light while running 9.900. Kato had a fabulous day, averaging a 9.902 over six rounds of eliminations. Dave Carroll’s ‘54 Corvette scored a perfect 9.900 for the Cordeiro Family Motorsports number one qualifier award. Russ Hester, Larry Scarth, Roger Kato, and Tom Bayer made up the top five qualifiers in Sunday’s preliminaries.
Kato 1Kato went into the final looking for his third series win in the past two years, while Coapstick was looking for a perfect weekend with his Camaro. Despite a perfect 9.900 at 154.56 for Coapstick, Kato got the instant win with a 9.884, 161.34 (.036 r.t.) as a .001 red light glowed in the runner-ups lane. Kato credits American Race Craft, A–1 Racing Transmissions, Dyno-Flo, Chevy Shop, Albert Aucacio, Wayne Silvia, Dave Zewe, and especially wife Deb for his successful weekend.

 
scarth Larry Scarth holds the series points lead going into the next doubleheader weekend, August 9–10 at Auto Club Dragway, as he holds a 31–point advantage over second place Steve Parsons.
John Ross, Pete Bothe, and Greg Ventura round off the top five in the standings. Rick Gunther leads the 2008 Pro Gas Shootout standings, with Mike Blodgett second and Bothe third.
