Ray's Notes

We had 74 cars enter our 6th race of the year sponsored by Team Smooth, Perma-Coil and SMI Fuel Systems.  Team Smooth members Jon Brazeau and Jed Bourquin won the first two races at Fontana and brother Gary “Puddin’” Williams won this race making it a clean sweep for Team Smooth.  Gary has mastered the sand and the asphalt, so Petey suggested we put spikes in his tires and let him try ice racing.  Congratulations Gary, great job as usual and you get an extra $100.00 for taking out our point’s leader, Wayne Newman, in the final.

Also Congratulations to Wayne Newman for his runner-up finish.  He was darn near perfect all day and he just keeps racking up the points.

Congrats also to Jed Bourquin for his semi finish and to Pete Bothe and Ken “Racer” Brown for going to the quarter finals.  How cool is it that Racer Brown went 5 rounds with a legal Nostalgia car that has no electronics.  Also, congrats to our #1 qualifier Rick Gunther and to Val Torres who was our #2 qualifier.

On behalf of all the racers I would like to thank Larry & Sharon Scarth for the additional money he gave to the winner and runner-up at all the Fontana races.

I would also like to thank Kitty and Robin for their help at this race, we were short three of our regular girls and things were really hectic, but as usual everything got done.  Thanks again to Dave Fargo for keeping our points in order.

Our next race will be at LACR on Sunday September 26th in conjunction with the National Open.  Our index for this race will be 10.14 (N.H.R.A. index).  The race sponsor for both S\ST and Pro Gas will be Eagle Rods and Crankshafts.  LACR will do early parking Thursday from 10:00am to 4:00pm.  Friday gates will open at 10:00am and test and tune will be from 3:00 to 9:00pm.  Saturday and Sunday gates will open at 7:00am.  S\St runs Saturday and Pro Gas on Sunday.  Remember you can race the same car in S\ST and P\G, but will only receive one grade point.  To get 2 grade points you must enter 2 separate cars in 2 separate classes; such as P\G and S\C etc.

Our banquet is being headed by Maureen Smith again this year.  It will be Dec. 18th on the Queen Mary, so please mark your calendar.  Also, we are trying to round up raffle items and merchandise for the top ten a little earlier than last year, so if you can help out with anything (and we need lots of help with this) we would like to have everything by Dec 1st.

Also I had a couple of people tell me they heard we suspended a racer this year and I would like to clarify and make sure everyone knows that this is totally false.  I don’t know how this got started but it is not true.

See you at LACR
Ray
