Ray's Notes We had 86 cars enter our first race of the year at Fontana; once again the good people at Eagle Rods & Crankshafts sponsored it. This is Paul Weisner’s 10th year as a race sponsor and we really appreciate not only the sponsorship but also the good deals he gives us SCPG racers on all his great parts. The trophy sponsor again was Smith Motorsports. Glen & Mo have helped SCPG in many ways over the years. Glen was also instrumental in securing a new sponsor; P.R.W. (Performance Racing Warehouse), for our 3rd race of this year. Congratulations to our race winner Greg Ventura and also to Al for providing him with such a great car. Greg came close to doubling up this weekend as he got down to 3 cars in SCSC on Saturday. Seems like once he gets on a roll he’s darn near unstoppable. Also Congrats to Kevin Drew for his runner-up finish with Pat Jones’s Dodge Avenger; Kevin’s a great guy and has been racing with us for many years. We had 16 racers run 9.90’s during time trails with Val Torres, Jr. being the 1st one to run a perfect 9.900 to receive $100.00 from Randy Bowers and the #1Quailifer plaque from Joe Roubicek. Joe once again is sponsoring the #1 Qualifier plaques and runner-up trophies all year long plus helping to sponsor our next race. Joe has been helping us for many years and we really appreciate all he has done for us. Dave Coapstick also ran a 9.900 after Val and received the “You Just Missed It Award” and $25.00 from P.J. and Jack Giacalone of Pizazz Racing. Greg Bonds was our #5 Qualifier and he received $30.00 from Ken “Racer” Brown of Brown’s Transmissions and Repair. Gary Ross will collect $100.00 for the Bulls-Eye Award from Dave Calvert of C.P. Pistons for beating last years Champ Alan Hoefer in the 3rd round. C.P. Pistons will be sponsoring our Bulls-Eye Award again this year. The $25.00 Turtle Award sponsored again this year by Jim Sowards will go to Pete Jimenez. Our next race will be March 18th at LACR and will sponsored by Team Smooth and Perma-Coil, gates will open at 8:00am and we will start running at 9am. Remember there will not be a National Open this year at LACR because of NHRA dropping the grade point for National Opens. Also note that the date for our last race has been changed to October 21st. Our contingency sponsors again this year will be K&N Filters, Mike’s Transmission and Hughes Performance. Please remember to thank these sponsors when you see them. Race Safe, Ray P.S. Congratulations to Val Torres, Jr. for winning S\G at the Winternationals, to Bill Ohmer for runner-up and to Wayne Silvia and Fred Kondrotas for their semi finishes. SCPG made a statement at this race for sure! |
