Ray's Notes We had 62 cars enter our 5th race of the year at the California Speedway in Fontana, the “Russ Harris Memorial Race”, sponsored by Les & Jeanette and Cheryl Harris. Russ was a great guy who loved to be at the races with his son Bob. He was also a stout supporter of SCPG. Congratulations to Val Torres, Jr. (Madeline’s Daddy) for taking out Paul Wiechmann in the final. We all know how tough it is to stop Paul once he gets on a roll but Val is no stranger to the winner’s circle himself. Congrats to two tough competitors. Thanks to Kari & PJ of “KP (Kari’s People) Racing” for sponsoring the race trophy and to Joe Roubicek for sponsoring the #1 Plaques and Runner-up trophies all year. We had 15 cars run 9.90’s during qualifying with Paul Wiechmann nailing down our #1 spot with a perfect 9.900. He received $100.00 from Cordeiro Motorsports and Brendan Herem received $25.00 and the “You Just Missed It” award from P.J. and Jack Giacalone of Pizazz Racing. Our #5 qualifier was Randy Bowers and he received $30.00 from Ken ‘Racer” Brown and Brown’s Transmission and Repair. Shaun Langdon beat our point’s leader Jim Israel 1st round but unfortunately did not have the C.P. Piston sticker for the $100.00. The Turtle award of $25.00 sponsored by Jim Sowards goes to Russ Hester with a .625 winning lite in round #2. Thanks to Dave Danish and his crew for providing us a safe place to race. It was another hot day and while some get to go back to our air conditioned Motorhome in between rounds to cool off Fontana’s crew stays out in the heat all day long so we can race. We really appreciate what they do for us, so don’t forget to tell them that whenever you get a chance. Also Thanks to Dave Danish for agreeing to give us 3 time trials and thanks to all you racers for co-operating and getting up to the lanes right away. Three time trials has been our format forever and I know how important it is for our Shoot-Out, so we must continue to prove we can get 3 times trials and still get the race done on time. Also thanks to Dan for coming to our drivers meeting, showing a concern and asking for our input on what they can do to make it better for us at Fontana. Our next race will be August 19th at Fontana again and will be sponsored by John Rademacher of Product Engineering. The gates will open at 7:00am and racing starts at 9:00am. Anyone wanting to go Friday Night can park in the holding lot. Race Safe, Ray |
