Roubicek defeats Colleasure in Pro Gas Final at Fontana By Bob Johnson A record 98-cars qualified for the Southern California Pro Gas Assoc. “Randy Marcum Memorial Race”. Marcum, a long time competitor & supporter of the association, died earlier this year. Ronnie Marcum, the brother of Randy, was the number one qualifier for the event after running a perfect 9.900 with his Corvette. Quarterfinal round action for the R.G. Industries-sponsored event opened with Gary Cooke defeating Doug Sedmak, Hollis Colleasure beat Doug Crumlich, and Joe Roubicek won a double-breakout race with Matt Treadway. Cooke opened the semifinals with a .004 reaction time, but was defeated by Colleasure’s ’24 Dodge with a 9.918 and .020 reaction time as Cooke lost with a 9.941. Joe Roubicek went to the final with his beautiful black Corvette as he stopped ’04 series champion Mike Blodgett Sr. 9.93 to a 9.95. Roubicek and Colleasure both broke-out their final round match, with Roubicek getting the win with a 9.880, 163.91 (.023 r.t.) while Colleasure settled for runner-up with a 9.869, 152.66 (.013 r.t.). |
